Just like the rest of you, we spent all those hours during Lockdown in our sweatpants, sitting on our sofas, watching the events of 2020 unfold. We quickly realized we were living through historic and consequential times. As the hysteria mounted, it seemed as though every 15 minutes there was a new crisis. With so much happening at such a rapid pace, we realized people would inevitably start to lose track. Then, as the angst of 2020 persisted and politics took hold, we saw the polarization setting in. We set out to devise a fun way to bring people together; a trivia game that would document all the wild happenings of this crazy window in time and provide everyone a fun way to relate to one another through shared human experience. Our Citizen Outbreak trivia card game was born!

As we developed our idea for the table-top game, we started preserving and categorizing all the relevant content that would make for entertaining and thought-provoking game trivia. We spent months scanning the headlines, videos, books, podcasts, and social media posts to compile the hundreds of trivia game questions that you’ll find in your copy of Citizen Outbreak! We tested many rounds of prototypes with friends and family, incorporating feedback into each new version of the game until we felt we got it right. We ae so excited for you to play!

We specifically designed our game hoping to provide everyone a fun way to transcend the political divide. The tabletop game is comprised of hundreds of trivia questions that span across the full spectrum of events that have unfolded throughout these past few years. Depending upon where you live, which news channel you watch, which narrative you embrace, our game’s content is sure to evoke a variety of reactions. The Covid-19 Pandemic is one of the most consequential events in modern history that continues to impact the functioning of global society. As with any historical event of consequence, it is imperative that we all talk about what’s going on around us, and not only to those who see everything exactly the way we do. Citizen Outbreak is the first game created by Rudy Gofman and Matthew Toboroff, two childhood friends who reunited shortly before Lockdown. Watching events unfold, the pair came up with an idea to provide everyone a fun way to keep track of all the madness. They quickly formed Boychik Gaming LLC and set out to create the Citizen Outbreak game! The trivia game’s artwork and graphic design was created by Rudy’s daughter Arianna.
